Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You are literally breaking a fast, but I’m sure you’ve all heard that before. I’m just reiterating it because as I’ve mentioned not too long ago, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, there are some days where it’s hard to wake up and make a good quality breakfast. We’ll either wake up and have a granola bar/cereal or go through a drive through for fried chicken (fried chicken for breakfast was a genius idea so good thinking from certain restaurant owners). This can lead to bad habits because it’s so convenient, but we all know things worth having never come easy… except for the breakfast recipe I’m about to share with you. It’s quick, easy, full of protein, healthy carbs and fat, and you can prep it the night before no cooking required. I’m talking about overnight proats! Proats are protein oatmeal. Clever right? So here’s the recipe:
- ¾ cups of Milk or Almond Milk (depending on preference, I like to use a chocolate almond milk with added pea protein)
- ½ cup of Steel Cut Oats
- 1 Tbsp of Maple Syrup
- 1 Tbsp of Hemp, Chia, or Flax seeds (depending on preference)
- 1Tbsp of Nut butter (Peanut, Almond, Cashew or whatever you want)
- 1 Scoop of your favorite protein powder (Pea Protein or Whey Proteins, I like to use a chocolate Pea Protein Powder… I like chocolate and this is a healthier way to get my chocolate fix)
Mix all ingredients in a seal-able container and let it sit in the fridge over night.
There it is! Simple. Just wake up grab it and go or just eat it right away. Top it with your favorite fruit if you’d like. Full of fiber and protein to keep you full for longer duration’s throughout the day. Also, you’ll notice I prefer the vegan option. I’m not a complete vegan but I do like to incorporate soy-free vegan options in my diet for variety. Give this a try and let me know what you think!
