The expression “cart before the horse” is an idiom or proverb used to suggest something is done contrary to a conventional or culturally expected order or relationship.

Have you ever heard this expression before?

As I dive deeper into the nutritional and training world and talk to more and more people this expression is unfortunately a concept people have become far to close with without even knowing they are doing it!

Putting the cart before the horses simply means to do things in the wrong order.

So what can this mean?

I know you have or know someone who has heard or seen something about a product or concept and immediately jumped on the band wagon before they even have the basics downs.

Don’t worry, I am not throwing you or anyone under the bus, because we all have done this.

You see some jacked guy or woman with really great legs and you see her promoting a product or device thinking that’s what got him or her to look like that.

…and if you are a beginner reading this don’t fall into the tricks.

Do not forget the countless training hours, dialing in their nutrition and YEARS of work they put in to look like they do.

So, next time you see a product and it says it does “Insert whatever you want” remember that 99.9% of a lot of things in the nutrition and training world are gimmicks. The basics of training hard, eating to fuel your results, reduced sleep and stress will always be your main focus.
