Four Ways to Meal Prep on a Budget
Planning ahead is key when it comes to meal prepping on a budget. Set aside a few hours each week to plan out your meals and make a grocery list. This will help you avoid impulse purchases and ensure that all of your ingredients are on hand when you start prepping. It will also save you time that you can use to visit the gym!
Don’t let leftovers go to waste! Instead, repurpose them into a new meal, like an omelette, wrap, or salad. Creativity will serve you well here, as the more inventive you get with your dishes, the more you will forget that you’re using leftovers in the first place! If you’re really not in the mood to eat something immediately, though, remember that you can always freeze it for the future.
Buy in Bulk
Buying in bulk is one of the best ways to save money when meal prepping. Look for deals on staples like rice, beans, and grains, and stock up when prices are low. You can also look for discounts on frozen fruits and vegetables, which can last for months and are usually less expensive than fresh produce.
Stretch Your Ingredients
To make the most of your ingredients, try to create multiple meals out of them. For example, you can use the same base ingredients, such as vegetables and proteins, to create different dishes throughout the week. An added bonus of this strategy is that if you start with a healthy foundation, all of your meals using those ingredients will be packed with vitamins and nutrients!
